THE EXTENT OF UTILIZATION OF EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES FOR CIVIC EDUCATION TEACHERS JOB PERFORMANCE IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ANAMBRA STATE

This study examined the extent of utilization of educational resources for civic education teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools in Anambra State. Three research questions and three null hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance guided the study. The study was a descriptive research design. The population of the study comprised of all the 640 of civic education teachers in public secondary schools in the six education zones in Anambra State. The sample of 640 civic education teachers was used for the study. The instruments for data collection were the researcher’s structured questionnaires titled ‘Educational Resource Utilization Questionnaire (ERUQ)’ and Civic Education Teachers’ Job Performance Questionnaire (CETJPQ). The Instruments were face and constructed validated by four experts one in the Measurement and Evaluation Unit, one in the Department of Political Science and two in the Art and Social Science Department, Faculty of Education, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam, Anambra State. The internal consistency was ascertained by administering the instrument to 30 civic education teachers from public secondary schools in Enugu State. Cronbach Alpha method was sued to determine the internal consistence which yielded 0.70. Mean and Standard deviation was used for data analysis. The study indicated that there is a significant difference in the mean ratings of urban and rural public secondary school teachers on the extent of utilization of the available physical plant resources for civic education teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools in Anambra State. The study revealed that there is no significant difference in the mean ratings of urban and rural public secondary school civic education teachers on the extent of utilization of the available printed resources for civic education teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools in Anambra State. The study showed that there is a significant difference in the mean ratings of urban and rural public secondary school civic education teachers on the extent of utilization of the available non-printed resources for civic education teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools in Anambra State. Based on the findings of the study it was recommended that the State government and PPSSC should constantly up-grade, audit and maintain the available physical plant resources, printed resources and non-printed resources in urban and rural public secondary schools in order to ensure that they are properly utilized for teacher job performance and the study has contributed to knowledge in the following way as it serves as a reference point for state ministry of education towards understanding the extent to which various resources, like school physical plant resources, printed resources, and non-printed resources, are available and utilized for civic education teacher job performance and school improvement.
